Intergalactism is a geographically distributed collective of artists who primarily work with video and sound installations. The collective originated in the early 2000s in response to a specific art exhibition that its members experienced independently. The exhibition lacked artistic craftsmanship and was neither thought-provoking, entertaining, nor even provocative. This initial dissatisfaction has evolved over the years from protest to fascination, and finally to a pronounced love for moving images in general and video art in particular.
In their artistic practice, the collective mainly works with video clips that arise from the moment's inspiration, with no intention to direct the always anonymous and unaware participants. The works often seek a statistical density, something that is still lacking in contemporary video art. Additionally, members often use strong contrasts (fast versus slow events, urban versus natural environments) that they gather during their travels around the world.
